Ibiza consolidates as a destination for sports tourism
The island of Ibiza takes strength as a destination for thousands of people who come to do sports tourism. As indicated by Fitur organizers of the main events planned for this year, athletes are beginning to appreciate the island not only for its landscape but also for the complementary offer of gastronomy and night and day entertainment that exists.
Francisco Larrey, head of the Ibiza Marathon and the 12K to be held on April 7, noted that registrations for the test this year have already increased by 30 percent. In the second edition of this event, its organizers hope to reach 3,000 runners, a thousand more than last year.
As he pointed out, this test is attracting both the national and international markets. In fact, 60 percent of the people registered in the marathon are from countries like Italy, Holland or England. Regarding the national market, athletes from Madrid, Comunidad Valenciana, Catalunya or Andalucía are the most abundant.
“Since last year there has been a noticeable change. There was a lack of revulsion, there were competitions but it was not necessary for people to think that Ibiza is also a sport, “he said.
For his part, José Hidalgo, president of the Spanish Triathlon Federation, explained that the first European Multisport Championship to be held in Ibiza in October will attract between 4,000 and 5,000 people to the island who will make an average of between 8 and 10 days of overnight stays.
